The Printing Charity has shared new ideas to help support mental wellbeing at work, which includes thoughts from panellists following a discussion on the topic at The Print Show 2025.
Nicola Peacock, senior relationship manager at the Printing Charity, led a panel discussion on the Knowledge Zone during the exhibition, which took place at the NEC in Birmingham in September.
The session, entitled ‘Knowledge Exchange Live: sharing ideas for workplace wellbeing’, looked at how businesses in print and the allied trades are supporting the mental wellbeing of their staff through a range of different initiatives.
From the panel, Sam Morgan and Donna James, both of Signspeed, alongside Stuart Harley, chief executive of XplorerGroup, all offered insight into the measures they have in place to support their staff.
Top tips included regularly checking on your team, with Harley saying it is important to talk to staff in person whenever you can, and creating opportunities for open communication.
There was also a focus on creating a culture with safe spaces where open conversations can happen and for business leaders to take time to practice self-care, with Morgan and James both saying they commit time to their own support networks.
Finally, all panel members agreed on the importance of sharing support from external resources, including The Printing Charity and its tools such as the helpline and regular advice emails.
“There are so many businesses in our sector doing brilliant things for staff wellbeing,” Liz Ross Martyn, director of marketing and engagement at the Printing Charity said. “It can feel difficult to know where to start with a wellbeing programme, however – but it definitely doesn’t have to be.
“The Printing Charity is here for everyone working in print, paper, packaging, graphics and publishing, whenever we’re needed, through practical, emotional and financial support. The charity’s free, confidential employee helpline is a straightforward way to provide practical and emotional support to your teams. Please contact the charity to find out more.”
