Attracting younger people to print and ensuring they continue to work in the sector is crucial to securing the long-term future of the industry. But how do print companies go about making themselves more attractive to youngsters?

In this session, young people in our industry will talk about effective ways to encourage, support and develop those at the start of building print careers, and discuss what they wish they had known about our industry before they joined it.

Sam Nelson is passionate about helping young people progress in their careers and shine. He's responsible for careers and development initiatives, including the Rising Star Awards, within the Printing Charity.

His goal is to ensure that as many eligible people as possible have the opportunity to learn about the various ways the charity can support their career progression in our industry, through support, advice and networking.

Gabby Solarek

Account ManagerEight Days a Week
Gabby started at Eight Days a Week Print Solutions as an agency worker in the production team before taking up a role as trainee account manager at the business. She was promoted to account manager earlier this year.

Gabby was a Printing Charity Rising Star Award winner in 2023. She has also won the Young Leader Award at the IPIA Awards; gained bronze in the SMP’s Bright Futures Awards; and been shortlisted for PrintWeek’s Trainee of the Year.

She loves the fact that there is no typical day in print. From traditional litho printing to today’s digital solutions, the industry is ever evolving, and each client and campaign is unique. Services are tailored to meet specific goals and requirements, with customer service driving innovation, whether in adapting formats or making strategic recommendations to increase success.

Isabel works in the Imageco studio as a creative artworker and Mac operator. She loves being surrounded by artwork and creativity every day.

For the last year, she’s been a member of the FESPA Next Generation Committee, giving her an influential role in creating a brighter future for young people in print. She is also a 2024 Printing Charity Rising Star Award winner, receiving her award at the House of Lords in July.

Isabel loves the fact that elements of print are reflected everywhere in the world around us: people don't notice just how much is printed then they walk down a street. For her, print is a creative, inspiring, ever-changing industry she is proud to be a part of.

Aaron Toombs

Pre-Media OperativeBCQ Solutions Ltd
Aaron is a pre-media operative at creative production company BCQ Solutions Ltd, and a 2023 Printing Charity Rising Star. He started at BCQ in 2016 as part of a BPIF NVQ Apprenticeship, specialising in Pre-Press.

He loves building a career in print because the industry is constantly evolving, so no day feels the same.
